Zendaya has seen the Dune trailer — what did she think?

Zendaya has become one of those actors who has managed to live both in the world of critical acclaim and blockbusters. She’s hopped from films like The Greatest Showman and Spider-Man: Far From Home in relatively close proximity to the critically-acclaimed series Euphoria. It seemed only natural that she’d end up in a film with Denis Villeneuve, who I think merges the blockbuster mindset with the artsy.

I honestly don’t know what I am expecting with this movie. But between the high pedigree of both the story and the director, it’s hard for me not to get excited. Add in the wonderful cast that includes actors like Jason Momoa, Oscar Isaac, Rebecca Ferguson, Javier Bardem, and Timothée Chalamet, and you’ve at least piqued my interest. And yet, all we’ve seen so far from the movie is a title card and some images.

Well, it sounds like the writer of InStyle has seen a trailer, and so has Zendaya herself.

“Dune was incredible,” Zendaya told the outlet. “I wasn’t in it very much, so when I was watching the trailer, I was like, ‘Oh my gosh!’ I called Timothée [Chalamet, who stars in it] and said, ‘Dude! You should be proud.’ It is a big deal to even be a small part of something with such a massive cast. And I love sci-fi stuff too. It’s fun to escape into another world.”

In the film, Zendaya plays the role of Chani. I admittedly have yet to read the novels, so I don’t know how prevalent she is in the first novel, and if her role in it is reflective of the film itself. Yes, the film will ultimately cover the first half of the novel, but we don’t generally know how the film will split that up. All I know is that the book needs to be pushed up my reading list so I can take in the story before the film hits.
