After breaking across the weekend from Saturday onward. here is the latest on Marvel star Jonathan Majors arrest. Barring any breaking news on Monday as you read this, here is where we are. As covered very well by IndieWire, Jonathan Majors (pictured alongside Michael B. Jordan in Creed III in the header) was arrested in New York City on Saturday morning on charges of assault, strangulation, and harassment after a reported altercation with a woman.
A statement given to IndieWire by the NYPD is below.
“On Saturday, March 25, 2023, at approximately 1114 hours, police responded to 911 call inside of an apartment… within the confines of the 10 Precinct. A preliminary investigation determined that a 33-year-old male was involved in a domestic dispute with a 30 year-old female. The victim informed police she was assaulted. Officers placed the 33-year-old male into custody without incident. The victim sustained minor injuries to her head and neck and was removed to an area hospital in stable condition.”
This was followed up by the following statement by Majors reps.
“He has done nothing wrong. We look forward to clearing his name and clearing this up.”
However since then, there’s a few things have happened.
Accusations and Lawyers
First of all, there were a few folks in the industry who came out to start throwing some accusations at Majors. Not specifically to the incident in question, but referring to past behaviors, presumably having worked with him previously. For now this could be gossip, or it could be the start of something more. However, I’m keen to stick more to the official line in all this for now, rather than the rumor mill. Of course this is a changing situation and we here at LRM are just sharing the news as we find it with readers. That being said, if you want a really good article on all the rumors and accusations that have come out since, The Direct covers it all pretty well. Just click the link to read their coverage.
Finally, IndieWire also received a statement later from Majors criminal defense attorney Priya Chaudhry.
“Jonathan Majors is completely innocent and is provably the victim of an altercation with a woman he knows. We are quickly gathering and presenting evidence to the District Attorney with the expectation that all charges will be dropped imminently. This evidence includes video footage from the vehicle where this episode took place, witness testimony from the driver and others who both saw and heard the episode, and most importantly, two written statements from the woman recanting these allegations.”
“All the evidence proves that Mr. Majors is entirely innocent and did not assault her whatsoever. Unfortunately, this incident came about because this woman was having an emotional crisis, for which she was taken to a hospital yesterday. The NYPD is required to make an arrest in these situations, and this is the only reason Mr. Majors was arrested. We expect these charges to be dropped soon.”

I’m not going to give any opinions on Majors, nor the incident in question. That’s a the job of police, lawyers etc. However, it would be fair to say no matter which way this falls out in the end, it’s probably something Marvel boss Kevin Feige could have done without. This week has been hectic enough for Feige. The announcement that one of Feige’s key team Victoria Alonso was let go by Disney for a start.
However, we also have the fact Ant-Man and the Wasp: Quantumania, which Majors appeared in, has seemingly flopped. The movie has so far made less money than either Ant-Man or Ant-Man and the Wasp. Whilst we don’t have the figures, it seems clear that the budget for this threequel was greater than those of its predecessors. Therefore, when a sequel costs more but makes less, that’s usually a sign you messed up. Frankly, word of mouth on Quantumania was so underwhelming it hurt the movies profits. Oh, and the one positive everyone seemed to take form the movie was Majors turn as Kang.
If Majors does have some demons, it could seriously hurt Marvel’s entire plan for this Phase. If the actor was completely innocent all along, then it’s still been a rough week for Feige. Again, I am not giving my opinion on the alleged crime. I like writing about movies and TV shows. If I wanted to write about criminal cases I would join a local paper. However, we did have to cover this at least due the potential implications.
That is the latest on Marvel star Jonathan Majors arrest. Well, barring any news that hits whilst I’m sleeping on Sunday evening. As always let us know any thoughts below.
