There are triumphs and there are legends but the story like Rickey Hill is one of the few genuine emotional inspirational films. The Hill is based on the true story of the professional baseball player, Rickey Hill played by actor Colin Ford. We learn of Hill’s perseverance against the odds including his own health limitations.
The Synopsis
Growing up impoverished in small-town Texas, young Rickey Hill shows an extraordinary ability for hitting a baseball, despite being burdened by leg braces from a degenerative spinal disease. His stern, pastor father (DENNIS QUAID, “Far From Heaven”) discourages Rickey from playing baseball to protect him from injury, and to have him follow in his footsteps and become a preacher. As a young man, Rickey (COLIN FORD, “We Bought A Zoo”) becomes a baseball phenomenon. His desire to participate in a try-out for a legendary major league scout divides the family and threatens Rickey’s dream of playing professional baseball.
From appearing on print ads at a very young age, Colin Ford moved on to acting. He made his debut at the age of five in one of the favorite chick flick films, Sweet Home Alabama as Clinton Jr. He went on working on independent films and being part of television series. Ford is known for projects like Push, his role as Joe McAllister in the television series Under the Dome, Day Break, and We Bought a Zoo. This year he was seen in A Thousand Tomorrows and CW’s Walker.

Back in June I took part in The Hill press day and was connected with Colin Ford to talk about his part in the film. He discussed his several reasons for wanting to be part of a film based on a true story. Ford also mentioned Rickey Hill himself being on set and Ricky Hill himself on set. Plus, his stepping into this other era and his faith.
