Dawn Of The Jedi Gets New Co-Writer And Mandalorian And Grogu Gets Release Date

Some more The Mandalorian and Grogu casting news plus a rumor Rotta the Hutt will be 'buff' in the movie.

Some Star Wars news to cover as Dawn of the Jedi gets a new co-writer in Beau Willimon and Mandalorian and Grogu gets a release date. Let’s start with Dawn of the Jedi. As we know, this is the working title only of the in development movie from James Mangold. As revealed by THR, Mangold will not get help on the script from Willimon.

‘Beau Willimon is going from House of Cards to House of Jedi.’

‘The playwright and screenwriter has been tapped to work the script for Star Wars: Dawn of the Jedi, Lucasfilm’s feature that is to be directed by James Mangold. Willimon is joining Mangold to write the script for the project that will trace the origins of the Force and be set 25,000 years before any of the timelines and stories told by the movies and shows so far.’

This is very good news in my book as Willimon has worked on Star Wars before. Namely he was one of the writers who worked with Tony Gilroy on Andor Season 1. In fact the Narkina 5 prison arc was what Willimon worked on. Which to be fair might be the best piece of Star Wars content anywhere since Return of the Jedi.

This movie is still in early development. Mangold is also making Swamp Thing for the DCU over the next couple of years. For now we have no idea which movie is first on Mangold’s list.

The same article from THR states as per Disney’s official slate that the release date for The Mandalorian and Grogu has been set. As we kinda all expected, Mando and Grogu will be the next Star Wars movie to hit theatres. The release date is May 22, 2026. I said at the time and I have heard nothing to change my mind… I believe Mando and Grogu was made into a movie specifically to fill this slot. Probably because the Rey Sequel wouldn’t make it that quick due to rewrites. Disney needed to get a Star Wars movie put by May 26′ for some reason we don’t fully understand. Hence why I still believe this movie will be a retooled version of what was written for The Mandalorian Season 4.

So, what do you think of this news as Dawn of the Jedi gets a new co-writer in Beau Willimon and Mandalorian and Grogu gets a release date? Thoughts below as always.
