Poor Ewan McGregor can’t seem to shake the press these days. I suppose that’s what happens when you’ve become an integral aspect of one of the longest-running film franchises in existence. While the movies he was in may not have been the best out there, there’s no denying that he did an admirable jobof following in Alec Guinness’ footsteps as Obi-Wan Kenobi.
Ever since it was announced that Disney would be tackling other standalone stories set within the Star Wars universe, rumors spread that Disney was working on an Obi-Wan standalone film. In the time since then, we’ve heard word that they’ve taken tons of meetings with people pitching their ideas on what a film like this could contain. As of this writing, nothing has fully materialized, but that hasn’t stopped folks from asking McGregor about the movie.
While on Jimmy Kimmel Live, McGregor was once again asked the question regarding that film, and here was his response:
“It’s gotten to the point where I’ve been asked this question so many times — and I answer questions when I’m asked because I’ve been brought up like that, polite — and it’s gotten to the point now where it looks like I’m touting for work at Disney’s front door like, ‘Give me the Obi-Wan spinoff.’ But of course, I’d be happy to do it.â€
McGregor certainly does have a point. From some of the reports we’ve seen and reported on ourselves in the past, it definitely did sound like he was the one pushing it for a while. However, you can just chalk that up an overly-enthusiastic media pushing the story forward. And why wouldn’t we be enthusiastic about it? Ewan McGregor was perhaps the best thing about that prequel trilogy, and we’d all love to see more of what happened after he settled on Tatooine.
Is an Obi-Wan film the next logical step, or should we be looking elsewhere for our next anthology film? Let us know your thoughts down below!
