3 Body Problem Ready For Season 2 But Waiting On Green Light

Here is a small 3 Body Problem FAQ with No SPOILERS , because I think it is needed.

3 Body Problem is now streaming Season 1 on Netflix, the writers//producers say that they are ready for Season 2, but waiting on the green light. Netflix usually likes to wait and see how a show is performing before announcing new seasons. Especially given the fact that 3 Body Problem is the most expensive first season of a show to date. The most recent and final seasons of Stranger Things are higher budgeted, but compared to Stranger Things Season 1, it’s way more expensive. It’s said to be $20M an episode.

Speaking with Total Film, Alexander Woo, one of the co-creators/writers/showrunners alongside Benioff and Weiss says plans are being firmed up for Season 2. Multiple season after that also, but he warns they cannot get too far ahead of themselves and post Season 2 is still a little hazy. Woo also says that 3 Body Problem might be more than 3 Seasons, one for each book, because the second and third books are longer. Therefore the show could end up running for 4/5 seasons.

“Well, there’s three novels in the trilogy,” Woo said. “The novels get longer and longer so I wouldn’t say it maps out exactly to three. We have some really strong ideas about what to do in a Season 2, and then it’s a little hazier down the line. But we want to get to the end, we want to get to the end of the trilogy, and whether that’s three or four, you know, or some other number.”

“The goal is to get to the end of the trilogy and it seems like it would map out over probably, certainly more than two seasons but beyond that, it’s hard to know exactly.”

Weiss said,

“We don’t have a second season, but we need to keep pushing forward full steam ahead as if we did. Because if we do get a second season, we’ll need to hit the ground running in terms of pre-production and production to get it out to people in some kind of reasonable time. A show like this takes a long time to make and you can’t wait to get started thinking about it until somebody gives you the greenlight.”

“I think we have a pretty evolved sense of where it’s going,” he added. “We’ve been doing some work on that front and the subsequent seasons after that are a lot hazier because once you really get into the weeds on a season of television it really takes all of your waking hours, and there’s not much time left to be simultaneously plotting a third or a fourth season. So the short answer is yes, we’ve got a second season that is being formulated and kept on deck in the event that we get to go ahead.”

Given where the books go, I think there’s a pretty good chance we start Season 2 many years in the future. Our main cast all being cryogenically frozen to skip ahead of time. Though I’m not sure all of the Season 1 leads will make it that far.

Review Coming This Week

I’ve enjoyed the series so far. I only finished Season 1 this weekend, but I do plan to write a review of Season 1 later this week. It’s not A+, but there’s a decent show there and you kinda want to keep watching, a few niggles aside. I had some niggles with the books also though to be fair.

Have you watched 3 Body Problem yet? What do you think? What do you think of the comments that 3 Body Problem is ready for Season 2 but waiting on the green light from Netflix? Thoughts below.
