Horror fans also got something to cheer about during Warner Bros. Discovery’s announcement of the Max streaming service on Wednesday on the Warner Bros. lot in Los Angeles. They announced that Max is currently developing a drama series based on the films in New Line Cinema’s The Conjuring Universe. DC boss Peter Safran will serve as an executive producer on the project for Warner Bros. Television. Well-known horror filmmaker James Wan is in talks to executive produce.
According to Warner Bros. Discovery, this new television series will continue the story established in the feature films. It will be produced by Wan’s Atomic Monster Productions. As well as Safran’s The Safran Company in association with Warner Bros. Television.
The films in The Conjuring Universe have collectively grossed over $2 billion at the worldwide box office. These films include “The Conjuring”, “Anabelle”, “The Conjuring 2”, “Annabelle: Creation”, “The Nun”, “Annabelle Comes Home”, and “The Conjuring: The Devil Made Me Do It”.

The next installment in The Conjuring Universe comes on September 8, with the release of “The Nun 2. Interestingly enough “The Nun” is the highest-grossing film in the entire Conjuring Universe to date. Michael Chaves is directing the sequel and Bonnie Aarons will be reprising the role of the demonic nun Valak. Unfortunately for that demon, Taissa Farmiga will also be returning as its adversary, Sister Irene.
Here is the logline for “The Nun 2” for the moment.
1956 – France. A priest is murdered. An evil is spreading. The sequel to the worldwide smash hit THE NUN follows SISTER IRENE as she once again comes face to face with the demonic force VALAK – THE DEMON NUN.
As for the upcoming series, it will be interesting to see how it is developed. Will it be a linear story with multiple characters that we are familiar with? Or will be new ones that we haven’t seen? So far it has been a solid universe that has been in good hands.
