Will Season 5 of Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D. be the series’ last? Not necessarily, but the showrunners want to make sure the season finale would also work as a series finale, if need be.
Talking to TV Line, co-showrunner of Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D. Jed Whedon has this to say about the finale of Season 5:
“We are in process [of writing the finale].”
Co-showrunner Maurisa Tancharoen added:
“We know what it is.”
Tancharoen then said the finale could act as a season finale, or rewarding finale for the entire series. Whedon added:
“Yeah, we’re ready for if this is the end. We’re definitely going to make it rewarding either way.”
“We can certainly pivot and there are certain things that we’re putting in that at the last minute could be adjusted. But we know at the end we’re not moving off that mark. We’re going to do what we were planning to do, and I think that it’ll be thrilling either way.”
So, I guess we wait from word from ABC, but expect a (hopefully clean) ending, should Season 5 indeed be the end of Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D. They did outlast S.H.I.E.L.D. in the films by about four years…
