The Rocketeer Returns… In New Animated Series For Disney Junior

The Rocketeer is returning! But not in the way fans of the 1991 film would have hoped…

Deadline reports that Disney Jr. has begun production on The Rocketeer, an animated adventure series aimed at kids 2-7. Like the 1991 film, it is inspired by Dave Stevens’ comic book series.

This version of The Rocketeer… for kids… follows Kit, a young girl who receives a surprise package on her birthday revealing she’s next in line to become the Rocketeer, the legendary superhero who flies with a rocket-powered jet pack. With the help of her gadget-minded friend Tresh and her airplane-mechanic uncle, Amrbose, Kit is ready yo take flight and save the day.

Each episode of the series will feature two 11-minute stories, including an original song.

Joe D’Ambrosia, SVP of Original Programming for Disney Junior, had this to say concerning the announcement:

“We are very excited to introduce The Rocketeer to our young Disney Junior audience. The vast storytelling found in the original comic books provides the perfect opportunity to create an exciting new adventure series told from a young girl superhero perspective that the whole family can enjoy together.”

The Rocketeer is set to premiere in 2019.

May I suggest Timothy Dalton and Nazis as the villain? I mean, it worked (okay) the first time… kids can handle it! The entire family can enjoy it… together.

Even if you are not interested in a Disney Junior series, are you excited the Rocketeer is back? If you have kids, will you introduce the classic character to them this way? Let us know your thoughts in the comment section below!
