Alita: Battle Angel Producer REALLY Wants A Sequel — Make It So, Fans!

Want an Alita sequel? So does its producer.

We are living in a fan-centric world. This is the reality we live in, for better or worse. I know plenty of people out there think it’s for the worse, and plenty who think it’s for the best. In my opinion, it’s a double-edged sword. There is a lot of good that could come out of it and a lot of bad. Zack Snyder’s Justice League is on the way, and it’s proven just how much power fans have over studios.

So, where does that leave Alita: Battle Angel? This was a film that hit back in 2019 to decent fanfare. Critics were mixed on the film, but those who saw it often speak highly of it. For almost any other first in a franchise, the $400-million-plust it made would have been pretty darn serviceable, and given that it was a manga adaptation, 20th Century Fox should have been elated. But, of course, none of that matters if the studio doesn’t make a profit, and if Alita: Battle Angel did make money, it was meager earnings.

As such, a sequel wasn’t immediately put in development. Add in the acquisition of 20th Century Fox, and it makes sense why an Alita sequel wasn’t made a priority. However, producer Jon Landau has always made it clear — if fans want a sequel, they need to tell the studio. And based on a recent post on Instagram, it looks like he’s living that life, constantly encouraging fans to speak out.

As you can see, Landau’s Instagram post sees him wearing a shirt featuring the cyborg. On it, it reads “Wash your hands, I want a sequel.” The implication seems simple enough: Stay healthy so we can see a sequel to Alita: Battle Angel. In addition to the writing on his shirt, Landau wrote the following caption:

“Here’s to the The [sic] Alita Army and all of the fans of Alita: Battle Angel. Hope you are staying healthy and safe. #alitabattleangel #washyourhands #alitaarmy #rosasalazar”

So, if you have given up hope on an Alita sequel — don’t. Studios have proven that they are swayed by the almighty dollar. Show them you’re interested in seeing the story of Alita continue and they could ultimately make it happen. For example: The above-mentioned Justice League. Fans said they wanted it the Snyder Cut, and they got it.

I, for one, hope to see an Alita sequel down the line. While the first movie wasn’t perfect, I thought it was a lot of fun, and hinted at a lot of great potential stories to come. Plus, it was nice to see Robert Rodriguez put out something that had more mainstream appeal. He had spent so much of his career going for pulp, that it was interesting seeing him go for a more standard blockbuster. I wouldn’t hate him going back to that style for a continuation — should he decide to come back.
