From director Ridley Scott, HBO Max’s Raised by Wolves blend a futuristic scenario of androids raising human children on a mysterious virgin planet. As the burgeoning colony of humans threatens to be torn apart by religious differences, the androids learn that controlling the beliefs of humans is a treacherous and challenging task.
The series star Denmark actress Amanda Collin (The Exception, A Horrible Woman), Abubakar Salim (Informer, Black Mirror), Travis Fimmel (Vikings, Lean on Pete), and Winta McGrath (Aloft, True Blue).
During a Television Critics Association (TCA) virtual press junket for HBO Max, series creator Aaron Guzikowski (Prisoners, Contraband) joined Amanda Collin and Abubakar Salim to discuss details about the new show to the press. Collin and Salim play the androids deemed as Mother and Father, respectively.
LRM Online was in attendance at the virtual press tour for the series.
Both Collin and Salim discussed with the press about playing androids.
“The incredible thing about being an android that you can justify a lot of things. You can have so much fun with the character while building it,” she said. “We had the luxury of shooting it very chronological. On the first day, Abu and I looked at each other for the first scene that we’re supposed to walk. We looked at each other, ‘How do we walk as androids?’”
She continued, “We just walked. Little by little, stuff came along. We think about not looking at each other. There was even one key moment that [I realized] I have super-hearing because I’m an android. I can hear things. I can sense things. You can then incorporate the animalistic style of moving. It was a great joy to keep discovering the senses of an android.

Salim agreed on the versatility and discovery of playing an android.
“Amanda and I have so much room to play on set. Of course, a lot is riding on it. There was space to make mistakes to discover and to learn. These two androids are also learning,” Salim added. “It was fun to dive into. You rarely get the chance to play in that world on set. Ridley, the whole team, and Amanda created a safe place for me to screw up. It all came naturally in finding the way we can move. We were able to be bold about it.
Ridley Scott served as executive producer of the series. He also directed the first two episodes, making it his television directorial debut for an American audience.
HBO Max also released its first official trailer for the series. Raised by Wolves will stream on HBO Max beginning September 3rd.
