In every good fighting movie, there is always a mentor by the side of the fighter. With American Fighter, it is no different. Oftentimes, these fighting mentors harbor a secret on why they don’t fight anymore.
The cast includes George Kosturos (American Wrestler: The Wizard), Tommy Flanagan (Sons of Anarchy), Bryan Craig, Allison Paige, and Sean Patrick Flanery (The Boondock Saints). Shaun Paul Piccinino directed the movie from a script written by Piccinino and Carl Morris.
Here’s the official synopsis:
Desperate for cash to save his deathly ill mother, college wrestler Ali (George Kosturos) enters the hidden world of underground fighting. Ali shows promise, but he lacks skills, and gets beaten bloody. Duke (Sean Patrick Flanery), a troubled handler, takes pity on the boy and trains him to be a fierce competitor—but is it enough to make Ali a winner?

American Fighter is a story, which is highly believable with the given history and the popularity of underground fighting arenas (before UFC obviously). The film is a journey of a young fighter, who has the primary motivation to save his mother and not necessarily trying to win a fight after a fight.
With a great cast, the movie isn’t one to miss.
American Fighter releases digitally on Friday, May 21 followed by the DVD release on Tuesday, May 25.
LRM Online exclusively has a clip titled “Why Did You Stop Fighting?” In the scene, it has Ali (George Kosturos) bonding with his mentor Duke (Sean Patrick Flanery) by asking about his past and on why he no longer fights.
