An Alternate Ending Saw High Evolutionary Survive Says Chukwudi Iwuji

James Gunn clarifies the fate of High Evolutionary in Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3. Major SPOILERS here for the film so be warned.

Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3 actor Chukwudi Iwuji says an alternate ending they shot saw High Evolutionary survive. The cut that made its way into theatres was not definitive, though one would assume there is no way the High Evolutionary was surviving that.

However, speaking with ComicBook Iwuji talks about an alternate ending shot and suggests that in the MCU, if you didn’t see his body, he may yet be alive.

“Well, let me just put it this way. I’m hoping you’ll see an extended version or maybe an alternate ending, you know, that we certainly did film,” Iwuji told us. “I mean the whole point in Marvel is that unless you see someone die they haven’t necessarily died and even if they do die what does that mean in the multiverse, right? But, the point is that Rocket doesn’t shoot me. They make a point of saying why don’t you kill him and he says no, I’m not going to kill him. And you don’t actually see me go down with the ship. So, I’ll just leave it at that.”

He doesn’t outright say what else was shot, and I guess most fans assume no that no villain is dead forever. With the Multiverse and magic and time travel there are always ways for Marvel to bring anyone back if they have to or want to. I personally am not sure we should see the High Evolutionary back. Unless that is through flashbacks. I’m up for the new Guardians teams coming across various other experiments, or worlds left with no maker. However I thought this was a pretty fitting end to the HE and in my mind it’s better that he did perish.

It’s unlikely we will get any more Marvel movies from James Gunn. However, I’m sure that new Guardians team will get a run out at some point. It may just depend which filmmaker wants to define that group and carry on the cosmic corner of the MCU.

What do you think as Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3 actor Chukwudi Iwuji says an alternate ending they shot saw High Evolutionary survive? As always, leave any thoughts below.
