Since bursting onto the scene in 2004 as the director and co-writer of the highly successful Saw, filmmaker James Wan made a name for himself in the horror genre. Since then, he’s been the creative force behind such titles as Dead Silence, Death Sentence, the Insidious franchise, The Conjuring films, the Annabelle films and The Nun. Wan also made a very successful transition into action when he directed the blockbuster smash Furious 7 and is now currently the executive producer for CBS’ reboot of MacGyver.
However, at one point in his career, Wan wanted to blend his horror and action talents by rebooting a particular living vampire…
Wan sat down with the podcast Happy Sad Confused (as reported by ComicBookMovie.com) to promote his upcoming DC/Warner Bros. film Aquaman. During the show, he brought up the idea he had to reboot Blade for Marvel Studios back in 2013. Wan explained, “Years back, a couple of years back, I think it was right after The Conjuring that I went into a particular studio and told them ‘Hey, I’m a big fan of Blade. Would you guys be interested in rebooting Blade?’” At the time, Marvel passed on the idea since Wan still had little experience then. When asked what his idea was, he responded, “I’ve done a lot since then, so I can’t quite remember what I had thought of. But I did like it at the time.”

While Wan didn’t get the chance to reboot Blade, he is definitely getting his comic book fill at the moment. Aquaman opens in one week and is currently receiving quite a bit of positive buzz. Additionally, Wan is producing the upcoming DC series Swamp Thing, which will appear on the DC Universe streaming app. The pilot episode will be directed by Len Wiseman (Underworld).
