While there are many things to enjoy about Avengers: Infinity War, the highlight of the film for me personally was the fantastic battle between the heroes and Thanos on Titan. A new Marvel crew assembled on the home planet of Thanos, including Iron Man, Spider-Man, Drax, Star-Lord, Doctor Strange, and Mantis. They combined all their efforts and attempted to take the gauntlet away from Thanos, coming within inches of success. Today we learn Spider-Man wasn’t always part of the Titan crew and a different hero took his place in another version of the script. In speaking with Yahoo! Movies, one of the film’s writers, Christopher Markus, explains the decision to send Spider-Man to Titan.

“There was one [version] where Spider-Man did not go to space, and where Falcon went to space. And it was fun, it was interesting, it’s always great to have those guys in various situations and there was a lot to do with them in both situations, but we weren’t getting as much emotion as we could if we brought them back to people who know them.”

Nothing against Falcon, but had he went to space in place of Spider-Man, we wouldn’t have been treated to that very emotional scene between Spider-Man and Tony Stark, easily the most emotional part of the film for me, and to be honest,  a difficult scene to watch. We recently learned that Groot thinks of Rocket as a father figure, and even though he didn’t outright say it, we learned the same about how Peter Parker feels about Tony Stark.
