Batman: Soul of the Dragon Trailer Takes The Dark Knight Back To The ’70s

Batman: Soul of the Dragon

Batman has been a very versatile character when it comes to setting. Via Warner Bros. Home Entertainment and DC, we have seen him in so many places. We have seen him as a Samurai in Japan. We have seen a steampunk version in a pre-Victorian era Gotham City. As well as fighting alongside teenage mutant ninja turtles. So what adventures can we expect the Dark Knight to be featured in next?

Yesterday Warner Bros. Home Entertainment and DC have announced the 1970’s martial arts thriller, Batman: Soul of the Dragon. Iconic animation producer Bruce time is taking Batman back fifty years for a supernatural-laden martial arts extravaganza. This is the next entry in the fan-favorite series of the DC Universe Movies. Produced by Warner Bros. Animation and DC, the feature animated film will be released digitally on January 12th, 2021. Then on 4K Ultra HD Blu-ray Combo Pack and Blu-ray on January 26th, 2021.

Here is the trailer for Batman: Soul of the Dragon.

Batman: Soul of the Dragon Synopsis:

Set in the midst of the swinging 1970s, this Elseworlds adventure finds Bruce Wayne training under a master sensei. It is here that Bruce, along with other elite students, is forged in the fire of the martial arts discipline. The lifelong bonds they form will be put to the test when a deadly menace arises from their past. It will take the combined efforts of Batman, world-renowned martial artists Richard Dragon, Ben Turner, and Lady Shiva, and their mentor O-Sensei to battle the monsters of this world and beyond!

The voice cast for the film includes David Giuntoli as Bruce Wayne/Batman, Mark Dacascos as Richard Dragon, Kelly Hu as Lady Shiva, and Michael Jai White as Ben Turner/Bronze Tiger. Their mentor O-Sensei is voiced by James Hong. Josh Keaton is featured as Jeffrey Burr, and additional voices are provided by veteran voiceover actors Grey Griffin, Chris Cox, Erica Luttrell, Robin Atkin Downes, Patrick Seitz, Jamie Chung, and Eric Bauza.

Batman: Soul of the Dragon is being directed by and produced by Sam Liu. It will be based off a script from Mortal Kombat: Scorpions Revenge writer Jeremy Adams. Producers are Jim Krieg and Kimberly S. Moreau. Bruce Timm and Sam Register are executive producers. Michael Uslan is also serving as executive producer.

One important note from the press release for this film is it’s dedication. This film is being dedicated to the late legendary DC Comics writer, Dennis O’Neil. He co-created characters that included Richard Dragon, O-Sensei, Bronze Tiger, and Lady Shiva. I am a fan of this type of martial arts film. It will be interesting to see Bruce Wayne in a 1970’s setting. What do you think of the film? Let us know in the comment section below!

Batman: Soul of the Dragon will be released digitally on January 12th, 2021. Then on 4K Ultra HD Blu-ray Combo Pack and Blu-ray on January 26th, 2021.
