Batman: Urban Legends Provides A Platform For Others In Gotham City

Grifter

Ready for more Batman? Well, this is a new title is not the book for you! Despite the fact that Batman is the biggest name in Gotham City, there are so many other heroes and villains that deserve their time to shine. With that in mind, I introduce you to an all new 64-page monthly anthology series titled, Batman: Urban Legends. This series will highlight the top talent and a mix of new voices that are looking to make their mark on Gotham.

The first six issues of the book are headed by a Batman/Red Hood thriller written by Chip Zdarsky. With one of my favorite artists Eddy Barrows. Jason Todd is investigating a new and lethal drug that has invaded Gotham City. All in one night, this investigation will change his life forever. Oh and probably not in a good way as this puts him in Batman’s crosshairs.

Along with this comes a story where Batman and Grifter go head to head. Continuing from the pages of Batman #101, gun-for-hire Cole Cash is still in Gotham, on the trails of the true motives of the Halo Corporation. This comes from Future State: Grifters writer Matthew Rosenberg and artist Ryan Benjamin.

Then we can jump over to a story that takes place before the launch of the new ongoing Harley Quinn series. Here we find Stephanie Phillips and Future State: The Next Batman artist Laura Braga doing what they can to figure out the complicated history between Harley and Poison Ivy. The trick though is that she has to find her first.

The first issue will be a three-part story of The Outsiders. This will see the reunion of Black Lightning, Katana, and Metamorpho. But things quickly turn sour with a confrontation with the appearance of a figure from Katana’s past! This story will come from Future State: Outsiders writer Brandon Thomas. With artwork by Max Dunbar.

This looks like an interesting set of stories. I do find that they are kind of oddly put together in this book. Not sure what the big picture is overall though. My biggest issue is that with over-sized books comes an over-sized price. I am not a fan of paying $7.99 for a comic book. Especially for one that really doesn’t really any particular story jumping out at me. Probably will not be at the top of my pull list.
