Birds of Prey has been an interesting little movie. Months prior to its release, we received word from a source that the movie was basically the worst movie they’ve ever seen. Chief among the reasons for this was the MacGuffin of the film that the titular Birds of Prey have to protect. If you’ll recall, in the film, they are chasing a girl named Cassandra Cain, who had swallowed a diamond she found so as to keep it from the police after she’d been arrested.

Of course, Black Mask was after the diamond, and that pretty much serves as the crux for the rest of the story. But the diamond was more than just a diamond. It was a diamond embedded with account numbers to the fortune of the Bertinelli crime family. So, yeah, it was kind of important. However, in the original cut of the movie, the diamond held a different secret.

According to rumors (including from our source), the diamond originally somehow held…dick pics. That’s right. Somehow — I don’t know how — it led to a stash of dick pics that would lead to outing Black Mask’s sexuality and ruin his reputation. /Film recently had a chance to speak with producer Sue Kroll about reshoots. When asked about the plot about the diamond and potential reshoots, Kroll said:

“There are different things that were explored with this. The idea of was always that this diamond, contains secret for power and wealth. And that it was the ultimate object for Roman Sionis to go after. And again, it is just every movie goes through an evolutionary process when things are tweaked. That’s why there are research recruits, and, post production, all of that. So, there was nothing that was not typical of the process at all for Birds of Prey. It all happened so it was supposed to.”

Sadly, the interviewer did not press for whether or not one of those ideas explored were that revolving around the aforementioned dick pics. That being said, she does seem to confirm that they didn’t quite have a solid idea from the beginning of what secrets the diamonds would contain.

Considering the way the film turned out, however, I’m not sure how the Bertinelli fortune wasn’t a part of the whole thing, to begin with. As it turns out, the diamond was tied into Huntress’ whole revenge plot, so I’m not really sure how that would have worked if they went a different direction.
