Black Mirror: Bandersnatch Highlight The Difficulties Of Creating A Choose Your Own Adventure

This past Friday, Netflix released a grand experiment in the form of Black Mirror: Bandersnatch, a feature film in the vein of the ever-popular Black Mirror series. However, this wasn’t a typical adaptation just getting churned out into the Netflix-sphere. This was a choose-your-own-adventure-style that allowed you to control the choices of a young programmer who is out to create his first video game.

Of course, that external goal is less than half of what the story is about. More than anything, it follows his increasingly-unhinged nature as he adapts the choose your own adventure novel Bandersnatch, potentially going as nuts as the writer did when putting out that original piece of work.

The idea of a choose your own adventure film isn’t new by any stretch of the imagination. Hell, the fact that these books existed for decades is proof of that, and there’s a reason the Telltale Games got so popular (they are essentially interactive novels). However, this is easily the most extensive and high-profile live-action take we’ve seen on the genre.

To commemorate this, Netflix has released two featurettes for the film. The first covers the more tech side of things, which chronicles the inception of the idea and their goal with doing something so unique. The other featurette chronicles the actual filming process. The former is at the top of the piece and the latter is below.

Which is your favorite featurette? Let us know your thoughts down below!
