Blumhouse is on a roll this fall with this weekend’s release of Halloween Kills and their four films that were also recently released on Amazon Prime Video. So why not start to get us hyped for what’s coming up early next year? Universal Studios’ Black Phone is currently terrorizing its way through film festivals. This week, we finally get to see what the buzz is all about in a brand new trailer and terrifying poster that you can check out below.
Black Phone stars Ethan Hawk where he plays a horrific murderer that we meet in the trailer in white face paint and a top hat. He lures a boy named Finney Shaw, played by Mason Thames, by claiming to be a part-time magician. But the truth is soon revealed as we then see Finney in a murder basement. When we see Hawks’ character again, he is wearing a very scary mask and taunts the boy with terrible stories. Away from the basement, there is a young girl that seems to be able to see Finney’s predicament. She is doing whatever she can to help him escape.
Scott Derrickson is the director for Black Phone. You may remember him from his other films including Sinister and The Exorcism of Emily Rose. The screenplay is also written by him along with C. Robert Cargill. It is noteworthy to mention that this is Mason Thames’ first ever film role.
Here is the synopsis for Universal Pictures Black Phone
Finney Shaw, a shy but clever 13-year-old boy, is abducted by a sadistic killer and trapped in a soundproof basement where screaming is of little use. When a disconnected phone on the wall begins to ring, Finney discovers that he can hear the voices of the killer’s previous victims. And they are dead set on making sure that what happened to them doesn’t happen to Finney.
Universal Pictures’ Black Phone will be released in theaters on February 4th, 2022.
