Boyle is in the rearview mirror for the James Bond franchise, and rumors are a-buzzing as to who the studio could bring on to replace the critically-acclaimed filmmaker for the next entry in the franchise. While there is speculation that the film will not hit its November 8, 2019 release date, Deadline reports the studio isn’t backing up from that date just yet. So long as they find a helmer within the next 60 days, they could supposedly still be on track.
So who does the studio have in mind for Bond 25? The outlet states that Dallas Buyers Club, Big Little Lies, and Sharp Objects helmer Jean-Marc Valle has been approached. While this is an interesting choice (and I think he could bring a more psychologically arresting Bond movie), it sounds like it likely won’t happen due to scheduling.

From there, the outlet states of shortlist of directors they’re discussing. On the list are Baby Driver director Edgar Wright, Hell or High Water‘s David Mackenzie, and White Boy Rick‘s Yann Demange.
Should they settle on one of these directors, it seems likely they will keep their release date, but there is one caveat: they would likely need to stick to the script by John Hodge or the one by Neal Purvis and Robert Wade. This goes against a previous report, where it was rumored they were searching for a director to put their stamp on the film and possibly develop a script from the ground-up for.
