Off of last year’s Oscar win, fans of Parasite are checking out past movies directed by Bong Joon Ho. As one of the most respected Korean directors, he helmed great films like the monster movie The Host, crime drama Mother, sci-fi Snowpiercer, and lovable mythical animal film Okja.

One of his earlier films, Memories of Murder, remastered for a special Fathom Events special engagement in theaters nationwide on October 19^th and October 20^th. The special presentation of the film includes exclusive content and a post-screening conversation with Bong Joon Ho with filmmaker Edgar Wright.

Here’s the film synopsis:

Memories of Murder tells the harrowing true story of the hunt for a sadistic serial rapist and murderer terrorizing a small province in the 1980s of South Korea. The film follows the paths of three increasingly desperate detectives as they attempt to decipher the violent mind of a killer in a futile effort to solve the case. Each murder was of a beautiful young woman found dead, raped, tied, and gaged in her underwear.

An interesting fact for the film is that it marks the first collaboration with director Bong Joon Ho and actor Song Kang Ho, who played the lead character in Parasite. The cult classic was initially released seventeen years ago and is now re-released as part of Bong Joon Ho’s masterpiece repertoire. Memories of Murder also marked as Bong Joon Ho’s second feature film.

The film also stars Kim Sang Kyung, Kim Roe Ha, Song Jae Ho, and Byun Hee Bong.
