Brian Stapf has been cast in the recurring role of Ted Grant aka Wildcat. The series will follow the Golden Age source material of the character claws, cowl and all. He will also still be a former boxer and will probably have a role in training Courtney Whitmore, played by Brec Bassinger. This classic character first appeared in DC Comics’ Sensation Comics #1 in 1942 and as created by Bill Finger and Irwin Hasen.

This isn’t the first time that we have seen Ted Grant in a live action series. In Arrow, he was played by J.R. Ramierez and was a gym owner in Star City and an ex-vigilante. He taught Laruel, played by Katie Cassidy, how to fight in the series. Stapf was recently seen in The Purge on USA, The CW’s Valor and the AMC’s Walking Dead. He has also worked as a stunt performer in the past.

Here is the synopsis for the 13 episode first season of DC Universe’s Stargirl written by Geoff Johns:
High school sophomore Courtney Whitmore who inspires an unlikely group of young heroes to stop the villains of the past. This new DC Universe series reimagines Stargirl and the very first superhero team, the Justice Society of America, in a fun, exciting and unpredictable series premiering in 2019, produced by Warner Bros. Television, Mad Ghost Productions and Berlanti Productions.
