Buck Rogers Reboot Reportedly In The Works

Buck Rogers, a franchise that most of us have heard of, but I assume not many have ever watched is reportedly making a return. According to The Hollywood Reporter, Legendary has big plans for the ancient science-fiction character. With a Buck Rogers feature film launching first that the studio hopes will blast the door open for a television show and an anime series. Legendary did not comment on the news, but sources tell THR that negotiations are nearly complete.

The character was born in 1928 and experienced a good deal of popularity during the 1930s. Buck Rogers in the 25th Century was a television series that ran for 2 seasons in the late 1970s.

While the basic premise is fairly simple, that’s not necessarily a bad thing. As always it’s all about presentation. The character has been on the shelf for a while. Buck would likely go through a few changes to sort of bring the character into the modern world. The most recent attempt at a film was done by comic book legend Frank Miller in 2008 but nothing ever materialized.

I don’t remember watching the Buck Rogers in the 25th Century TV series. All I remember is an old-timey radio voice saying, “Buck Rogers, in the 25th Century,” and then I would change the channel.
