Carol Danvers will once again soar in her own solo sequel.
Marvel is in final negations with WandaVision screenwriter Megan McDonnell to write the sequel to the studios’ 2019 billion-dollar-grossing blockbuster. Anna Boden and Ryan Fleck—the co-writers and director of the first film—will not be returning to the Danvers saga, but will still remain with the company and develop a Disney+ series, according to The Hollywood Reporter. Their sources state that Marvel is looking to attract a female filmmaker for the project, which they look to release in 2022.

Captain Marvel, Marvel’s first female-centric film, raked in over $1.1 billion worldwide back in March of 2019. The character, played by Brie Larson, appeared later that year in the beginning and finale of Avengers: Endgame. Aside from the setting moving from the ’90s to the present, no other details were revealed regarding the sequel’s plot.
At last July’s Comic-Con, Kevin Feige delivered a slight teaser at the end of Marvel’s Hall H panel :
“We didn’t even mention that we’re making Black Panther 2 and we didn’t mention that Guardians of the Galaxy 3 is coming. We didn’t even have time to talk about Captain Marvel 2, by the way. I didn’t even have time to talk about The Fantastic Four. And there’s no time left to talk about mutants.”
WandaVision being her first major credit, McDonnell is a relatively new writer in the industry. However, the studio was so impressed with her work that she was promoted from staff writer to story editor for the series. WandaVision is set to premiere on Disney+ later this year.
