Cobra Kai Creator Says Netflix Is The Best Place For Season 3

Growing up with the original film, I was excited when I heard a continuation of The Karate Kid, titled Cobra Kai was in the works. I became less excited when I learned that the series would be a YouTube original. Judging by the video site’s other original series, I wasn’t confident they could deliver a show worthy of the franchise (the original film).

However, I was wrong. The show was fantastic, much how I pictured it would be if say, Netflix had been the platform in charge. And as you may have heard, Netflix is the home of the show. Show co-creator Jon Hurwitz recently spoke with i09 and talked about how Netflix will give the Season 3 (the season being touted as the biggest so far) the audience it deserves. You can check out what he had to say below.

“It was really important for us that season three be at whatever the new platform would be because we feel so great about season three. We just finished shooting it and we want it to have the biggest possible audience. So within the past bunch of months, it wasn’t a question of ‘Oh, my God, is it going to land somewhere?’ We felt pretty confident it would land somewhere. We just wanted it to be at the best place, which is Netflix.”

Netflix had a healthy interest in the show before it ever aired on YouTube, and wanted to be the platform to host it. Hurwitz said that YouTube was more aggressive and eventually won the battle for the series. Hurwitz gives viewers an idea of what to expect for Season 3 below.

“It’s a season of rebirth and regrouping for a lot of characters. And it’s a season where we look to the past to see our pathway to the future.
