Yesterday saw the release not one, not two, but THREE gameplay videos for Marvel’s Avengers showing off the game. Marvel’s Avengers is out this September and this week we already shared some good news about the game. Gamers who buy Marvel’s Avengers will get a free upgrade if they switch to the Xbox Series X or PS5.
The first two gameplay videos were posted on social media. This first video showcases where the story is going in Marvel’s Avengers, revealing the ‘big bad’ as M.O.D.O.K. The video also showcases how the game’s story revolves around Ms. Marvel, aka Kamala Khan. Check it out.
People around the world have turned their backs on the Avengers. Ms. Marvel must reassemble her role models while facing AIM's leader, George Tarleton, who has his own vision for the future. 🔬

The second video showcases the co-op way of playing the game. I.e. you and some buddies teaming to tackle tougher missions and combining your skills. You can see the majority of characters in action on this one, so go check that out next.
Team up. Defend Earth. 🌐
Prevail against AIM with hope, truth, and embracing your powers.

The final video is a little longer, over 7 minutes, so you might want to check it out after reading the article, hey that’s your call. However the main take away from this video, is that it hasn’t gone down particularly well with gamers. I’ll explain more after the video, in case you want to judge for yourself before hearing what others had to say.
Those Concerns
When I first watched this video, I must admit I had some concerns. After checking out reactions online in variety of places with fellow gamers, I was not alone. The overwhelming reaction here is one of negativity. Specifically that negativity is focussed on how boring the 7+ minutes of video make the game look. Thor seems to just be endlessly slashing unimaginatively replicated AI squash bots. You get the feeling that your fingers are going to get sore from all the button mashing on the attack button here. There also doesn’t seems to be any effective defence techniques other than to walk or fly away.
As one commenter put it, and most eloquently so far. “There must be time travel involved here, because this game has bust its way through from 2008.” Visual quality aside, Marvel’s Avengers doesn’t feel any different to the basic concept of beat em-up’s from years ago. There isn’t that much difference gameplay wise in Marvel’s Avengers to what was happening in the old, and awful Superman and Hulk games. You just get the feeling that after an hour, that Thor mission is going to feel very repetitive. ‘Oh another set of robots that take several attacks to defeat, yay!’
From early reviews/leaks of the game, the general consensus I hear is that it is boring AF to play solo after a while. However, these same people who have played the game insist that the game becomes far more fun on co-op. Combining with friends to take down tougher opponents.

Marvel’s Avengers is very much like a looter/shooter and will be a GAAS game i.e. a live environment. Sometimes with this type of game, I find that the story campaign is almost a pointless slog until you get to the end game. As opposed to a cinematic, story driven game where the story itself is the end game.
Hopefully, once the players start to team up with friends against high level enemies, it will come alive. The worry, is that the majority of these GAAS game undercook their end game and die off before things can really begin. If that happens to Marvel’s Avengers, considering the old fashioned combat model, then I can see the player base just fall away for better games.
One more noticed detail of these videos was the potential for FPS drops. Honestly, with all the explosions on screen etc, I can see this game dropping frames like a boss on current gen. Whether the slightly upgraded version of Marvel’s Avengers will fix a lot of these potential issues remains to be seen. The FPS drops at least should be improved on next gen.
Anyway, that some of my thoughts and I seem to be finding most opinions similar to my own. But what do you think of these gameplay videos for Marvel’s Avengers? Leave your thoughts below as always.
