CW Moves Forward With Batwoman Spin-off, Game Of Thrones Helmer To Direct The Pilot

Looks like we’re getting a late Christmas gift in the form of another DC character for prime time television.

The CW seems to be pleased with Ruby Rose’s performance in their Elseworlds crossover event last December, deciding to move forward with its Batwoman project. The network has given a pilot order for the spin-off series. Appearing alongside Stephen Amell’s Oliver Queen, Grant Gustin’s Barry Allen (however, if you watched the crossover, you’d know their aliases were switched) and Melissa Benoist’s Kara Danvers, Rose held her own appearing as one of the first members of the “Bat Family.” While her screen time was limited to half of one episode, she embodied that charismatic darkness that comes with being a cousin to Bruce Wayne. Moreover, that suit was beautifully comic accurate. While Rose’s time in her cape and cowl was short, she portrayed the character well and left the audience wanting more, which surely was the production’s plan.

Greg Berlanti, the man responsible for all of The CW’s “Arrowverse” shows, will be producing the series while Game Of Thrones alumni David Nutter will direct the pilot episode. Aside from his nine episodes with Game Of Thrones, including three for the final season, Nutter has also directed episodes of Band Of BrothersERThe West Wing, SupernaturalThe SopranosEntourage, and Homeland. Additionally, this will not be Nutter’s first adventure in the world of superheroes; he is responsible for directing the pilots for SmallvilleArrow and The Flash.

For those unaware or lacking in knowledge of the Batwoman character, here is the breakdown Heroic Hollywood  had for her:

“Batwoman was first introduced in Detective Comics back in 1956 as Kathy Kane. She was one of the first vigilantes to make up the “Batman Family.” The character was reimagined for DC’s New 52 as Kate Kane, a Jewish lesbian who protects Gotham City as Batwoman.

An ex-soldier who was raised by her obsessive father, Kate Kane picked up the Batwoman mantle separate from her cousin’s decision to fight crime in Gotham. She has no problem putting herself in harm’s way to protect others and she’s also an intelligent tactician who will challenge Oliver Queen for the top slot in Arrow‘s Justice League.”
