David Cross And Tom Putnam On Their Wild Forest Adventure In The Dark Divide [Exclusive Interview]

The Dark Divide

Sometimes we all need a sort of awakening to get us going in the right direction. It could be just a change of course or an escape and reset from a dark tumultuous time. How we do this totally depends on the person. One real-life person named Dr. Robert Ryle journeyed across one of America’s largest underdeveloped wilderness. The problem is that he really wasn’t outdoor savvy to begin with, so this ends up being quite an interesting expedition. To make things worse, he might be followed by a mythical fellow that may or not exist.

This is the story told in the film The Dark Divide that stars David Cross and Debra Messing. The film is based on the book titled, Where Bigfoot Walks: Crossing the Dark Divide, by Robert Michael Pyle. It is directed by Tom Putnam. Almost as a supportive character serves Washington’s Gifford Pinchot National Forest. Its beauty and splendor are showcased throughout the film.

The Dark Divide

Here is the synopsis for The Dark Divide:

The Dark Divide is based on the true story of renowned butterfly expert Dr. Robert Pyle’s (David Cross) perilous 1995 journey across one of America’s largest undeveloped wildlands. At the urging of his dying wife Thea (Debra Messing  ), the shy author finds himself in over his head on an epic, life-changing expedition through Washington’s Gifford Pinchot National Forest in search of new species of butterflies.

Over the course of his six-week adventure Pyle battles self-doubt, the grueling trail, and the people and creatures who call this forest home. And, somewhere deep in the heart of The Dark Divide, he makes a discovery that challenges everything he knows about the natural world. With David Koechner, Cameron Esposito, Gary Farmer and Patterson Hood. Music by The Avett Brothers, Giants in the Trees featuring Krist Novoselić, The National Reserve, Samantha Crane, Bombadil, and more.
