Exciting news for the Whoniverse today as Disney Branded Television and BBC jointly unveil the premiere date for the forthcoming installment of “Doctor Who.” In a groundbreaking move, this new season will mark the series’ debut on Disney+ and will release simultaneously worldwide.
Fans of Doctor Who can mark their calendars for Friday, May 10th, at 7:00 p.m. EDT, when the journey commences on Disney+ in the U.S. and internationally (excluding the UK). Fans will reunite with the Doctor and his companion in “The Church on Ruby Road,” the gateway to two thrilling new episodes. Meanwhile, UK viewers can join the adventure from Saturday, May 11th, at 12:00 a.m. GMT on BBC iPlayer, followed by BBC One later that day.
Accompanying this announcement, Disney+ has unveiled captivating key art and a gallery image featuring the dynamic duo: the Fifteenth Doctor, portrayed by Ncuti Gatwa, and his intrepid companion Ruby Sunday, played by Millie Gibson. Furthermore, fans can anticipate the debut of a brand-new trailer from Disney+ on Friday, March 22nd.
This season promises an odyssey through time and space aboard the TARDIS, as the Doctor and Ruby Sunday traverse epochs and encounter allies and adversaries alike. From the elegance of the Regency era to the perils of war-torn futures, they stand as beacons of hope against the forces of darkness.
Showrunner Russell T Davies, also serving as executive producer and writer, expressed his enthusiasm: “At last, it’s my great delight to unleash a whole new season of the Doctor and Ruby’s adventures together. Monsters! Chases! Villains! Mysteries! And a terrifying secret that’s been spanning time and space for decades. Don’t miss a second!”
Joining the ensemble are a host of talented guest stars including Aneurin Barnard, Anita Dobson, Yasmin Finney, Michelle Greenidge, Jonathan Groff, Bonnie Langford, Genesis Lynea, Jemma Redgrave, Lenny Rush, Indira Varma, and Angela Wynter.
“Doctor Who” is produced by Bad Wolf, in collaboration with BBC Studios for Disney Branded Television and BBC. Under the creative vision of Davies, the team of executive producers includes Phil Collinson, Joel Collins, Julie Gardner, and Jane Tranter.
