This weekend saw the latest trailer for Dune: Part Two, which I added below. However, since that dropped Deadline and Collider are reporting that a Dune: Part Three is planned and will adapt the Dune: Messiah book IF Part Two is a hit. Part Two as many will know is the second half of the original Dune novel. Therefore, it’s a bit strange that Dune is split into two movies, but a novel just as huge is being adapted into the one.
Of course, perhaps there will be some elements of Messiah dropped into Part Two to aid with that? For now, who knows? However, the outlet says that is the current plan IF Part Two is as successful as Part One was. The original report for this was from Deadline, however, they don’t say much. Collider covers the scenario much better in my opinion and likely heard the same details.
Now it has been reaffirmed by Deadline that director Denis Villeneuve intends to cap off his Dune trilogy in spectacular fashion, by diving deeper into the works of Frank Herbert with an adaptation of Dune Messiah.
The third installment will continue the saga, and is expected to be co-written by Villeneuve and screenwriter Jon Spaihts. Although the studio has not yet officially announced active development for Part Three, fans can remain hopeful for the completion of this visionary trilogy. This is not the first time Dune Messiah has been adapted for the screen of course, with the 2003 miniseries Children of Dune pulling largely from the novel.
Naturally, the fate of Dune: Part Two and the subsequent trilogy will hinge on its performance at the box office.

As said above, here is that new trailer for Part Two. I thoroughly enjoyed the first Dune movie, so I’m looking forward to Part Two.
As Collider points out, Part One did really well given when it released during the pandemic. I expect all but a few of those who watched it recommended it to friends. I’ll guess even more have checked it out through streaming and pay per view by now also. I therefore predict Part Two will get a higher box office take than the first. Though, I’m hardly a box office expert.
If Part Two does nail it, then I’d be keen to see Part Three. However, I must admit that (for me) the series got a bit weirder and weirder as it went on.
What do you think as a Dune: Part Three is planned and will adapt the Dune: Messiah book IF Part Two is a hit? Thoughts below as always.
