Elementary School Fined For Showing The Lion King At Fundraiser, Bob Iger Apologizes Says He Will Donate To School

Emerson Elementary School, which is located in Berkeley, California recently found themselves on the wrong side of the House of Mouse. The school screened last year’s remake of The Lion King during a PTA fundraiser.

Last month the school received a letter from Movie Licensing USA stating the school needed to pay a fine of $250 because the film was shown outside, making it a public performance. David Rose Emerson Elementary PTA president had the following to say while speaking with CNN, you can check it out below.

“One of the dads bought the movie at Best Buy. He owned it. We literally had no idea we were breaking any rules.”

News that an elementary school was being fined by such a large company spread quickly and made it’s way to the top of Disney, with CEO Bob Iger posting the tweet below.

A nice gesture from Iger and even though we will likely never know the amount of his donation to the school, I would assume it will be a ‘pretty penny’ as Iger made almost $50 million last year heading up Disney.
