Avengers: Infinity War is a success the world over. The film brought Marvel’s finest together in one epic film. One character in particular, Scarlet Witch, played by actress Elizabeth Olsen, was key in the Avengers winning the battle in Wakanda toward the end of the film. Olsen recently spoke to Elle and talked about the one thing she would like to see changed in the film, her character’s outfit:

“It would just not be a cleavage corset. I like corsets, but I’d like it to be higher. Everyone has these things that cover them–Tessa Thompson does, Scarlett does. I would like to cover up a bit. It’s funny because sometimes I look around and I’m just like–wow, I’m the only one who has cleavage, and that’s a constant joke because they haven’t really evolved my superhero costume that much. But then you look at where it started in the comic books and it was a leotard and a headband so…oh, it’s horrible, it’s so horrible. So at least they know that’s not cool. But then they made Wonder Woman, you know? And that’s what she’s in. I think of the costumes and what we have to wear–it’s more about iconic images, because that’s what these movies are…I think that’s the goal with the costumes, and it’s not representing the average woman.”

Yes, part of it is the iconic imagery of the traditional appearance of the characters, but it’s not like big screen adaptations haven’t made changes to superheroes costumes in the past. While Scarlet Witch may show off a little more than some of the other female superheroes, it’s not like she’s on full display. Nowadays her appearance would probably even pass for a movie with a G rating. I think after her character showed a new level of badassery in Avengers: Infinity War, she may have a bit more influence and possibly have Scarlet Witch’s costume made a little more to her liking.
