As expected, we have not seen the last of Michael Myers.
Collider is reporting that writer Scott Teems will be writing the screenplay for the next Halloween film. The story is said to pick up where the David Gordon Green 2018 film left off. Blumhouse made the announcement late Wednesday. Teems has adapted two Stephen King novels for the production company (Firestarter and The Breathing Method) and developed a treatment that was well-liked by Blumhouse. Jamie Lee Curtis, Judy Greer, and Andi Matichak are all expected to return, as well as producer Jason Blum and Malek Akkad. There has been no word yet on whether Green, Danny McBride or John Carpenter will return to the project.

When we last left Michael Myers, he was trapped in a basement by the Strode women, who eventually left the home in a blaze. Being the 40th anniversary of Carpenter’s 1978 classic, this writer felt that the Green/McBride project was a perfect way to end the series. A perfect exclamation point for the Laurie Strode character, who successfully claimed retribution against the sadistic individual who forever altered her life 40 years prior. However, having seen how much the film made at the box office and the acclaim it received from critics and fans alike, a sequel was inevitable. Here’s hoping this sequel can remain in the same caliber as the 2018 film and not suffer the lack in quality that a number of its predecessors did.
There is no set release date yet, but Collider speculates that Blumhouse will most likely focus on an October 2020 release. Just in time for Michael’s favorite day.
