Lord of the Rings will apparently be “incredible.”

In the world of epic fantasy, The Lord of the Rings reigns supreme as the granddaddy. The mythology of Middle-earth has gone on to influence everything else that came after it in one way or another. With that in mind, there is no surprise that it is one of the most hotly-anticipated series coming out. But that’s not to say it hasn’t had some small setbacks.

If you’ll recall, fairly early on in the process, Black Mirror: Bandersnatch star Will Poulter was joining the project. But a couple of short months after that, it was revealed that he had to drop out. This was never officially confirmed, but in a recent interview with NME, Poulter confirmed his previous involvement.

“Unfortunately, there’s no particularly interesting story, other than the fact that there was a last-minute change to the schedule, which meant that there was a clash for me and I was unable to do it,” Poulter said about the series adaptation. “I have utmost respect for everyone involved in that project. And I have no doubt it’s going to be incredible.”

Sadly, we have no idea what role Poulter was supposed to play. That being said, we have very little clue about what this Lord of the Rings show will even cover. All we do know is that the show is likely to take place during the Second age of Middle-earth. So don’t expect to see any Bagginses around for this entry. And given how little we know about the story, there’s no way we’d know anything about the actual characters. 

Personally, I can’t wait to see what happens with this show. While I’ve read The Lord of the Rings and The Hobbit, I dared not foray into the other stories of Middle-earth, such as The Silmarillion. Hell, I hardly even dipped into the appendices of Lord of the Rings, so events outside of the main story mostly elude my knowledge. So, when this show hits, I’ll be properly fresh to judge it on its own merits.
