Gemma Arterton starred in several action blockbuster films in the past, such as Prince of Persia: The Sands of Time, Clash of the Titans, and even Runner Runner. Her last biggest action blockbuster film was probably with Hansel & Gretel: Witch Hunters.
For several years, Arterton changed directions on the projects she participated in. Many of the films seem to be arthouse and indie films that showcase her acting abilities beyond action films. Some of the movies included romantic comedy movie Gemma Bovery, apocalyptic drama The Girl with All the Gifts, French drama Orpheline, and romantic drama Vita & Virginia.
During the press promotion for the upcoming film Summerland, LRM Online exclusively spoke with Gemma Arterton about what lured her back into the big action blockbuster film arena with The King’s Man.
“For a while, I was not looking for those kinds of projects. This one came along, and I just wanted to work with Matthew Vaughn. I’ve always been a fan of his Kick-Ass. This one is in his element,” she exclusively told us. “It’s classy and brilliant epic adventure comedy.”

She is still highly selective about the roles she chooses in her career, as noted with her filmography for the past few years. She plays Polly, a woman who assists with the organization in The King’s Man.
“For me, the character is really fun. I play the smartest person in the room. So, I had to make sure if I was going to go back into that genre—I had to play someone pretty, pretty good.”
The King’s Man is scheduled for theatrical release for September 18, pending the Covid-19 pandemic. It has already been delayed twice since November of last year.
Arterton has seen the final version of the movie.
“I have seen the film, and it is cracking,” she said excitedly. “It is so much fun. I’m really pleased with it.”
As for Summerland, it’ll be released in select theaters, VOD, and digital platforms on July 31. The full interview with Gemma Arterton on this emotional drama will be published next week.
