The Ghostbusters: Frozen Empire big bad Garraka has been revealed on Funko POP’s for the movie. SPOILER warning for this content people if you want to be completely fresh for Frozen Empire‘s release. As often happens the merch has been revealed prior to the movies release and ghostbustersnews.com has some images up of the POP’s they’ve gotten hold of, or images of.
One of the POP’s seems to be of the franchises new big bad, a spectral being called Garraka. It is presumably Garraka who is responsible for plunging NYC into the freezer. The only artwork from the movie we have of Garrak is the image you see in the header. However, you can also see Garraka in the background of the standee seen in the official social media post below. First the POP image.

You can see Garraka is clearly the monster top centre in the image above. You can click the actual video for a better look. At the time I figured this was the villain, but without a name or something clearer there was nothing to discuss.
What I do like about this monster is that the design is clearly going to be genuinely scary. You can imagine the movie version of that POP looking quite horrifying, especially for younger people. I like that because Ghostbusters, or at least the original one, had some genuine scares for kids. However, you felt safe with that horror as a kid because it was wrapped up in a comedy about Ghostbusters. It’s not the kind of scary that stays with you because we know the Ghostbusters will defeat Garrak in the end.
It’s worth noting the site linked above has images for some other movie POP’s, including Ray and Phoebe.

My biggest issue with Afterlife wasn’t necessarily the recycling of Gozer as the villain. That was actually the smart part. my issues were all in poor character development, poor location, and a few leaps of logic within the mythology. Gotta be honest though, it was mostly the poor character development. I still don’t know Grooberson’s first name, nor the mum, who just drinks and moans. The brother didn’t do anything and the old crew were just a cameo at the end for nostalgia. I hope this movie, which has the old crew back, feels more like a passing of the torch.
Still, this is Sony, so if anything wasn’t working, it’ll just get cut for expediency rather than redesigned to make sense. In other words, I hope the director got what he wanted first try. If he had to ask for more time or more money, then we all know what Sony’s answer would be. That’s what they do, make cheap, quick IP backed movies.
