Gotham Gets A Fifth And Final Season

With the show gearing up for the current season’s finale next week, fans of Fox’s Gotham received some bittersweet news as the show has been renewed for a fifth season, unfortunately, it will be the show’s last. The final season is said to focus on Bruce Wayne becoming Batman.

A statement from Fox:

“The fifth and final season will wrap up this unique origin story of the great DC Comics Super-Villains and vigilantes, which revealed an entirely new chapter that has never been told.”

It sounds like Gotham was close to being cancelled as the show was not doing too well in the ratings, with an average of 3.7 million viewers. It’s likely the final season of the show will have smaller episode order, expect something around 13 to close out the series. One good thing to take away from this news, besides the writers getting a chance to wrap up the story, is that there will be a focus on Bruce becoming the Batman. It has been entertaining to watch the origin of Jim Gordon, Penguin, Riddler, Catwoman, and the guy who is definitely not the Joker. And while we have seen a good deal of Bruce Wayne, it appears as if now viewers will get what they’ve been waiting for during Gotham’s final season, Batman.
