Gotham Knights – What You Need To Know

Gotham Knights

I have been a big fan of the Arkham games in the past. It’s been great to be able to take on some of Batman’s greatest villains in both Arkham Asylum and Gotham City. As we know in one of the latest games that was released by Rocksteady titled Batman: Arkham Knight, things did not end well for Batman.

Now although not necessarily in continuity with that series, Warner Bros. Games and Warner Bros. Games Montreal are bringing us a brand new original story set in DC’s Batman Universe. This video game set to be released sometime in 2021 is titled, Gotham Knights. The announcement came early yesterday during the DC FanDome event. You can check out the trailer on top!

Gotham Knights is an open world, third-person RPG featuring the Batman Family as playable characters. These include Batgirl, Nightwing, Red Hood, and Robin. This new guard of trained DC Super Heroes must rise up as the new protectors of Gotham City with Batman gone. As teased in the trailer the Court of Owls has swept through Gotham and it’s up to our heroes to protect Gotham. You can check out some gameplay down below!

The first obvious feature is that we will be able to play as Gotham’s new guard of superheroes. We will see our heroes using the Belfry as the base of operations. Here they will attempt to connect the darkest chapters in Gotham’s history. Embark on rich storylines, including face-offs against some of the most infamous super-villains like Mr. Freeze as seen above.

Gotham Knights will feature an open-world Gotham City. Here we will be able to patrol the dark streets of five distinct boroughs in an interactive Gotham using a variety of abilities and combat moves. We cannot forget the ability to use the iconic Batcycle also showcased in the gameplay.

Speaking of the four playable characters, Gotham Knights will be able to be enjoyed solo or team up with a friend to combine strengths to protect Gotham City in a two-player, online co-op. Each of these heroes has unique abilities, gear, weapons, and a customizable suit. Lets quickly go the four heroes and check out their unique abilities. These bios are provided by WB Games.

Batgirl

Also known as Barbara Gordon, is a determined fighter and a skilled hacker. As the daughter of deceased Gotham commissioner, Jim Gordon, she had helped Batman as Oracle in the past. Now, after years of recovery and preparation, she is ready to step into her new role, wielding her melee tonfa, and harnessing her training in kickboxing, capoeira, and jiu-jitsu.

Nightwing

Dick Grayson, the first Robin, who was Batman’s protégé before becoming a hero in his own right. He’s a natural leader and the eldest and wisest member of the Batman Family. Nightwing’s mastery in acrobaticsis complemented by his expertise use of his signature dual Escrima Sticks, making him proficient at taking out enemies.

Red Hood

Formerly known as Jason Todd, is an intense and volatile anti-hero, which stems from his death and forced resurrection by one of Batman’s most dangerous foes. Red Hood has trouble keeping his temper in check but will not hesitate to step into the line of fire when a friend is threatened. His training has given him peak human strength and proficiency in multiple combat techniques with all manner of weapons – both traditional and high-tech.

Robin

Tim Drake, the young prodigy and genius of the team, who is a master of deductive reasoning. As a true believer in Batman’s mission, he is motivated by the conviction that Gotham City needs protecting and hopes to be the type of hero Batman personified. An expert fighter armed with his collapsible quarterstaff and skilled in a variety of stealth techniques, Robin also possesses a background in combined psychological warfare and behavioral sciences.

Gotham Knights will be available for you to enjoy on PlayStation 5, Playstation 4, Xbox Series X, Xbox One, and PC. For the moment we do not know the exact release date, only that it will be next year. I am very curious to see if they are going to keep Batman gone or if he will make a miraculous reappearance. The only way I’d be ok with Batman returning would be if Dick Grayson took the mantle.
