Halo: Infinite Campaign Overview Has Some Fans Worried About The Game

The Halo: Infinite campaign overview promo was released yesterday and so far it has been met with a mixed response from fans. The main source of any gripes seems to come from the way it looks like this campaign is designed. Specifically, as an open world experience. Now, Halo has always been famous far having large interactive game worlds to play in, but also using a semi-linear path and organized set pieces. Check out the video below for yourself, but it certainly feels like a different experience.

It looks cool to me, and the gameplay looks solid enough. However I can totally see where some fans are coming from. In many ways, I would say this seems similar to Destiny, just without the loot. I guess given Destiny was created by Bungie, perhaps that should be expected. However the drive to become more powerful by earning items you can keep and customize is what drives players to play the same content on higher difficulties. Halo: Infinite I do worry may not quite have that hook to keep players coming back. If the goal of most gamers playing the campaign is to get the story, finish, and then move on to another game, they may like this style a lot less?

Then again, I also know folks who think this sounds like fun. Players who liked the gameplay of Destiny, but not the time you need to out in to ern the good loot and play with friends. Halo may be carving a new niche for itself. However, there’s also the worry that this becomes the Halo version of Just Cause. Whilst some fans love those open world games, Halo fans would be expecting a Halo game to follow a similar trajectory.

Since I have Game Pass, and I’ve played all the other Halo games, I’ll be playing this. I genuinely hope the concerns from some fans are unwarranted here. I think Halo 5 had the worst campaign of all the Halo games and maybe it is therefore time for a change?  However for me, the story is key in a Halo game, and that’s where Halo 5 let me down most.

What do you think of the Halo: Infinite campaign overview promo? Do you have any of the concerns I have mentioned above? As always, leave any thoughts below.
