Did the last season of HBO’s Game of Thrones leave a bad taste in your mouth? Despite that many GoT fans were left wanting more and with the success of the series, a prequel or sequel was inevitable. HBO is currently working on the highly anticipated prequel series House of the Dragon.
Despite all of the setbacks that our current health conditions have thrown at us, it looks like HBO has begun to move forward on the series. According to Entertainment Weekly, the network has started casting for House of the Dragon. The showrunner for the series is Ryan Condal along with Miguel Sapochnik. Currently, HBO has committed to ten episodes.

This series is based on George R.R. Martin’s Fire & Blood. In this series, you can forget about Game of Thrones’ cameos. This is because this history of House Targaryen is set 300 years before the events of GoT. For now, they have not revealed the casting breakdowns. The problem with speculating what characters they will follow is difficult as Fire & Blood covers 150 years. It includes the rise and fall of a lot of leaders in Westeros.
There is a famed Targaryen Civil War, called the Dance of Dragons, that was occasionally referenced in GoT. This war ripped Westeros apart. According to EW, this is something that will be shown at some point in the series. What has been suggested is that this event takes place at the end of it’s first or second season. Some have also suggested that the series could also be a kind of anthology series like American Horror Story. That way they can cover more of the book.

As a fan of the early seasons of Game of Thrones, I am excited to see this prequel come together. Hopefully, the storytelling is handled with a lot more thought and care than the last few seasons of Game of Thrones. It will also be interesting to see what kind of storyline is put together and for how long HBO decides to back them up.
