How Captain Marvel Changes Nick Fury Into The Man We See In The MCU

For the first phase and a half of the MCU, Nick Fury was one of the hubs at the center. He was the man with the plan to unite the Avengers when planet Earth was threatened by outside forces. From day one, it was clear he’d had experience with other superhuman beings in his time at S.H.I.E.L.D. But who was the super to break in young Nicky?

As we now know, that superhero was none other than Captain Marvel. The upcoming film will be the first one in the franchise to take place in the ’90s (unless you count the opening to Iron Man 3), and thanks to that fact, we’ll be seeing a wet-behind-the-ears Nick Fury experience otherworldly beings for the first time, as Samuel L. Jackson said to EW:

“This is a mind-changing, attitude-changing moment for him that leads him to become the person that we know. He [now] understands that there are these other things out there. He understands that they’re not all enemies, and we do need to find allies who have specific kinds of skills that humans don’t have. And trying to convince people above him is a difficult task because they haven’t seen it or experienced it.”

These comments from Jackson make me wonder one thing: what kind of person was Nick before this meeting? Will we be meeting a Han Solo-type who thinks he’s seen it all, and will he have his whole world drastically altered as a result, or will he be more of an open-minded dude ready to take in this new information?

My mind points to the former possibility, as it’ll make for a much more interesting character arc for him. What do you want to see from Nick Fury in Captain Marvel? Let us know down below!
