With the impending Disney takeover of Fox nearing completion it seems, as expected, that many of the Fox-owned Marvel properties are being canceled. Right now it seems like the only Fox-owned Marvel movies that will see the light of days are X-Men: Dark Phoenix and New Mutants, and I’ll still be surprised if New Mutants ever sees the light of day.
But what about Deadpool? Unlike other Fox/Marvel properties Deadpool is doing really well financially and critically, so will X-Force still happen? Well according to Deadpool creator Rob Liefeld X-Force is being canceled as well, check out his Twitter post below.
Pour one out for ol’ X-Force. Victim of the merger. $800 million grosser easy. https://t.co/1ZCfYb9Ii5

Now, one would expect that the creator of Deadpool would be more ‘in the know’ than most people. Though Daniel Richtman replies to Liefeld that he’s heard it’s not officially dead, he does also say it seems unlikely as it would have to start filming before the merger takes place.
So for the moment, we would have to assume that the future of Deadpool is definitely very sketchy. It seems to make no sense, but this is also a branding issue. Disney will not put their brand on an R rated movie like Deadpool, thus, either Deadpool gets toned down to PG-13 (which most fans would despise) or Disney needs to create a brand they can use for R rated movies. They could, of course, continue to release films under the Fox banner rather than Disney, so there is a chance for Deadpool to carry on, but whether X-Force will ever happen is another story and right now it’s far too early to tell.
What do you think Disney should do with Deadpool, can it, or find a way to keep it going under a different brand? Reveal your thoughts in our PG-13 comments section below.
