J.J. Abrams Asked Lucasfilm About Releasing The Unspecialized Original Trilogy

Legend has it that in the winding caverns underneath Lucasfilm, lay a priceless treasure. The unspecialized, original Star Wars trilogy. The films are said to be guarded by a three-headed Kathleen Kennedy (who feasts on the novels and comic books of the old Expanded Universe) who will stop at nothing to keep fans from viewing the films in their original forms.

Everything I said above is absolutely, unquestionably, 100 percent true. No need to Google it or do any research, trust me.

While there is much demand for the editions of the films in their original forms, there is no supply. Apparently not even a big name Hollywood director, such as J.J Abrams can’t convince the Mouse to release them. Abrams spoke with Now This News and talked about the response he received when he asked the quesos grandes of Lucasfilm about potentially releasing the un-tinkered with films, you can check it out below.

“Yes, because, I mean, who wouldn’t want to see that? But I’ve been told that, for reasons that I don’t quite understand, that that’s not necessarily possible. Which, you know, is too bad because that was the thing that I loved.”

They get a bad rap, but the special editions aren’t all bad, some of the changes Lucas made to the films were improvements, however, a lot of the alterations are felt to be unnecessary by a good number of fans, and it’s hard to understand why Disney doesn’t offer an unspecialized edition.

Rumors say the original copies were lost or destroyed and this is the reason they’re not available or purchase. However, one would assume that somewhere out in the interwebs, exists copies of the unaltered films, so if Lucasfilm no longer has copies of them, they could probably acquire them, if they so desired.

Yeah, uhh, side note – four days until Skywalker Rises.
