Jac Schaeffer Talks WandaVision, Mephisto, And Al Pacino

By now I think most Marvel fans know the connection between WandaVision, Mephisto, and Al Pacino. If not, let me fill you in, briefly.

A rumor, mixed with fan theories started spreading that Al Pacino would show up as the MCU’s Mephisto in the WandaVision finale. Now, if you have seen WandaVision, you know that is not true. Jac Schaeffer, showrunner for WandaVision had a chat with THR recently. Schaeffer was asked if she tossed and turned at night with all those fan theories.

“I didn’t toss and turn, but it did affect me, I have to admit. I’m a people pleaser; I want people to be happy, I mostly just want to honor the commitment that I make with an audience. I do believe that you enter into a contract with the audience, and we violated that contract with intention in the sitcom space. We broke with convention over and over again, but it was with discipline and intention. And I think it was part of the thing that the audience relished and enjoyed. But as far as the sum total of the series, I didn’t want to break any promises, and I don’t feel that we ever promised some big male bad.”

“It’s baked in that the ultimate antagonist of the show is grief, and that Agatha is the external antagonist. So as far as those theories, I got a little nervous, but even at this point, I don’t want Mephisto or Magneto. As a viewer, that’s not what I would want out of this series. But, yeah, with some of the smaller stuff, I was like, “Oh, be patient and watch the whole thing.” (Laughs.)”

WandaVision, Mephisto, and Al Pacino

Schaeffer was also asked specifically about those Al Pacino rumors. Whilst this was not right for WandaVision, she would be keen to see this happen at some point.

“(Laughs.) I also love The Devil’s Advocate. So when that started happening, I was like, “Well, can we just make that story in a different capacity?” I would certainly pay to see Pacino reprise that role.”

I’m not so sure. Don’t get me wrong, Pacino is one of my favorite actors ever, I’d watch him in almost anything. However, for me he is now a little to old to play a Satanic character like Mephisto. The age Pacino was when he made The Devil’s Advocate was perfect. I’d rather see Pacino do something in the MCU we are not expecting, and more suited to his current age.

WandaVision, Mephisto, and Al Pacino! Alas, t’was never meant to be folks. As always leave any thoughts below.
