We need to talk before we get to the Instagram image shared by Jason Reitman. Full disclosure, I am a die hard Ghostbusters fan. I hated the 2016 film for having no amount of heart or clever comedy from the original. You can assume whatever you want about that, and you can disagree, but it was not a Ghostbusters movie in any way other than the name. Now let’s talk about the upcoming sequel/soft reboot that was horribly named Ghostbusters 2020. It’s being directed by Jason Reitman, the son of the original’s director, and stars kids. Lots of kids including Finn Wolfhard from Stranger Things.
I’m not sure about you, but I can’t see the style and tone of the original being able to be copied by Kids. Ghostbusters had a specific tone and style of comedy and its approach to the supernatural that made the original so perfect. Ghostbusters 2 changed that tone and style to appeal to kids more, especially after the success of the cartoon, and people seem to hate it these days. I was a kid when I saw both, so of course, I liked them both.

The focus on young kids in this film is an obvious attempt to copy the success of Stranger Things and IT. My personal opinion is that Sony is once again proving that they don’t get it. They don’t get what made the original so damned good.
That being said, GB2020 is coming no matter what and there’s always the possibility that I am wrong, and maybe they’ll catch that lightening in a bottle a second time. Paul Rudd has been cast as a teacher so…

Yes, that appears to be the front end and wheel of an old and rusted Ecto-1. Reitman asks if we’re ready to get rolling, and I honestly don’t know if I am.
