Jedi Temple Challenge – Host Ahmed Best Talks The Upcoming Star Wars Game Show

Star Wars? Game show? Count me in. I imagine most of you reading this have similar feelings. At the end of last year, the powers that be over at Lucasfilm informed fans that, Jedi Temple Challenge, a Star Wars game show, was on the way to Disney+. Hosted by Ahmed Best, the actor who played Jar Jar Binks in the prequel films, the show is described as a Star Wars-themed version of Legends of the Hidden Temple.

Best will host the show as a Jedi Master that is an actual character within the franchise’s mythology. Best recently spoke with Jamie Stangroom and talked about how the upcoming game show brings back an element he feels has been missing from Star Wars.

“There are a lot of things I think missing from Star Wars nowadays, but a big part of it is folding into the mythology in a way where the mythology is the star, and being able to tell a story and get out of the way of it being Star Wars. I like the mythology of Star Wars more than anything else, so I like the fact that I get to be this Jedi master and not me, because I am not, as Ahmed Best, a part of the Star Wars universe. And the suspense of disbelief doesn’t really happen for the kids if me, Ahmed Best, is the host.”

Best continued:

“So with Jedi Temple Challenge, it brings back this idea that we all have levels of connection to the Force, and you can actually grow your connection to the Force and it can become stronger through these trials at this temple. All of those things that Yoda did with Luke Skywalker at Dagobah in the swamp, this is where it was done first. It was in this temple. You got to get good here. I dig that. It’s something I think would be wonderful for kids. Because now there’s a path to this thing…Now there are actual steps you can take to being a strong Jedi. It gives you belief and faith.”

This does put a smile on my face. I’ve always enjoyed the lore of Star Wars over the actual war between the Rebellion and the Empire. The Jedi, Sith, and the Force have always been more interesting to me, though I also love the military aspect of the franchise. This sounds like yet another win for Disney+ I will surely be tuning in when the time comes. Speaking of that, the show was supposed to debut this year, but an official release date is currently not known.
