Jim Carrey In Talks To Play Robotnik In Sonic The Hedgehog Film

According to Deadline, Jim Carrey is in talks to play the villian Robotnik in next year’s live-action adaptation of the beloved video game, Sonic the Hedgehog. The character has had several cartoon series but this will be the first live-action version of the character.

This of course won’t be Carrey’s first turn into the role of a villain, as he has played Count Olaf in the film adaptation of Lemony Snickets: A Series of Unfortunate Events, as well as the Grinch and the Riddler.

Though I was a nintendo kid, I also had a Sega Genesis. And even though I preferred Mario, Sonic was still a great game and I am sure to watch this film, after all, it can’t be any worse than 1993’s Super Mario Brothers, can it? Not knowing a lot about how Robotnik will be portrayed in the film, only time will tell if Carrey has been casted correctly.

The Sonic the Hedgehog film will star James Mardsen and Tika Sumpter. The film will be directed by Jeff Fowler from a screenplay written by Patrick Casey and Josh Miller.

Carrey can next be seen in the SHOWTIME series Kidding, where he stars as a Mr. Rogers type figure.
