The Star Wars Holiday Special was bad, really bad, perhaps the worst piece of Star Wars content ever made. It was so bad that creator George Lucas reportedly tried to hunt down all copies and erase it from existence. Having said that, it likely still holds a good piece of nostalgia for some Star Wars fans, and one of them appears to be the creator of The Mandalorian, Jon Favreau.
Favreau has recently mentioned wanting to make an effort to bring us fans another holiday special, and no one really thought much of it, but now it appears as he is not joking around at all and has even been jotting down some ideas. Check out what he had to say about it while speaking with Variety below.
“I’ve been thinking about it. It’s ready, the ideas are ready. I think it could be really fun. Not as part of this, but there’s an excitement around it because it was so fun and weird, and off and not connected to what Star Wars was in the theater. The Mandalorian cartoon, the Boba Fett cartoon, from the holiday special was definitely a point of inspiration for what we did in the show.”
I mean, why not right? It really couldn’t be any worse than the original holiday special, I think we can all agree on that. It would also push the original further out of our minds and possibly not make us cringe when we hear the words, “holiday special.”
