Moviegoers who had a chance to check out the truly excellent Knives Out this past holiday season will be happy to know that another film is on the way very soon. Writer-director Rian Johnson had expressed his desire to make a series of films starring Daniel Craig’s Benoit Blanc, and it looks like that’ll be happening much sooner than originally anticipated.

The filmmaker told THR that he’s already developing a sequel to the crowd-pleasing whodunit. Furthermore, Johnson said he was eager to make the movie quickly, ideally in the next year. It probably comes as no surprise that Craig wants more too.

“Daniel had so much fun doing it, and he wants to do more,” Johnson said. 

And he isn’t alone. The film has made over $247 million worldwide, and I can say anecdotally that I saw it a third time last week to a nearly-packed theater with an audience that reacted perfectly to all the fun twists and turns. Clearly, word of mouth is doing well for this film is helping it reach unexpected heights, and we can only hope the second film has more of what we love.

Now, I’m just waiting to see if Ana de Armas will also be back as Benoit’s “Watson,” or if Blanc will be the only other returning character this time around — though I’d also be happy to see his two cop buddies return as well.
